Our Family Reserve Montepulciano 2024 is packed with ripe berries, cocoa and wood-smoke rounded off by fine tannins and a long, tactile finish - a wine of great character and class.

        Rich, bold and incredibly rare

Just three rows or 0.2ha of this savoury Italian red are growing in our vineyard – and only 9ha in all of New Zealand.

Montepulciano produces large, almost seedless berries of an inky black colour. With its extremely thick skins it’s well protected against disease, meaning we can pick the fruit about three weeks later than any other variety. It’s this late autumn ripening that gives us the unique colour and flavour concentration.

Our Montepulciano will cut through some of the meatiest meats like New Zealand game or Italian hare ragu, and will also pair nicely with rich, roasted winter vegetables - enjoy!

Excellent bouquet of dark red berries and boysenberry, there’s a dried spice and leesy quality then a baking spice layer adding complexity and charm. A dry textured wine touches the palate with a firmness from the tannins accentuated by the acid line and nicely contrasted by the core fruit flavours.
Persistent red berry fruit flavours, a natural tautness and balanced finish. Best drinking from day of purchase through 2033. A wine to enjoy along side food.

The vibrant, youthful 2024 vintage was estate-grown at Tasman, hand-harvested and matured for 16 months in seasoned French oak barrels. Full-coloured, it is mouthfilling and fruit-packed, with generous, berryish, plummy, gently spicy flavours, oak complexity and ripe, supple tannins. Best drinking 2028+.

        The season

We enjoyed a near-perfect spring, with ample sunshine and just the right amount of rain to keep the vines thriving.

Despite a drought in February and March, our old, deep-rooted vines managed to access sufficient water to ripen a beautiful crop.

Harvest 2024 proved to be one of our finest vintages to date. Free from disease or weather challenges, the grapes were hand-picked in excellent health and rich concentration by our dedicated, small team of regulars.
        Big smiles all around!
