Highly aromatic and focused, our Sauvignon Blanc 2020 is vibrantly fruity with pure passionfruit and gooseberry flavours supported by an interwoven thread of acidity.

It’s our Moutere clay soils, the dazzling Nelson sun and the finger prints of our fabulous team that make our wines unique.  We hope you’ll enjoy!

Reviews

This sensational new Sauvignon from Ursula and Daniel Schwarzenbach’s Home Vineyard on Baldwin Road is concrete evidence that the 2020 harvest was all kinds of excellent in their part of the world.

Extremely fresh and packed with tropical intensity, crunchy citrus and cressy-herbaceousness it’s an excellent example of Nelson niceness. Lime-laden with layers of melon and jalapeno, it has beautiful balance, minerality, tension, power on the palate and impressive generosity and texture.
Love it!

Estate-grown in Tasman, this hand-picked wine is fragrant with penetrating, ripely herbaceous flavours showing excellent delicacy, a touch of barrel-ferment complexity and a crisp, dry, lasting finish.

A classically styled Sauvignon Blanc - at first - with a ripe sweet fruited and fresh herb bouquet then a mineral and chalky wet stone layer emerges adding depth and a little intrigue.

Youthful, fresh and vibrant on the palate with flavours of fresh lime and white peach, some tropical fruits then apple and gooseberry. High acidity adds crunch, alcohol is balanced adding a hint of warmth on the finish - which is dry. The core of fruit carries this wine through a lengthy and nicely elegant finish.
Well made and ready to enjoy form today and through 2023.

Juicy tropical fruit flavours balanced by fresh herb and passionfruit aromas with intense but balanced acidity adding a zesty note to the wine. A smidgeon of residual sugar adds lift to the wine, which is made with grapes grown on Blackenbrook’s home block vineyard on Moutere clay soils in Tasman Bay.

This Blackenbrook Sauvignon Blanc carries the label’s trademark purity of flavour, it’s simply packed with bright, clean fruit flavours wrapped around a beautiful ripe-acid backbone. The streak of acidity that runs through the palate is crisp and juicy.

It’s the wonderful ripe acidity that helps focus attention on the delicious fruit characters. The wine sat on gross lees for several months after being harvested and processed before being racked in June and bottled in July 2020. This time on lees has added a soft textural component to the wine.

Beautiful clean fruit = beautiful clean flavours and purity of varietal flavour. This Sauvignon Blanc is simply delightful – a bright, crisp, dry wine simply bursting with tropical fruit aromas and flavours that is juicy in the very long finish.

Winemaker Daniel Schwarzenbach says “80% of winemaking was in the vineyard, we didn’t do anything in the winery to manipulate the flavours or textures, we just needed a good ferment to turn great, clean fruit into nice wine using a gentle process so we didn’t lose the flavours”

Season Overview

What a blast!  The past growing season was a pure delight, putting smiles on everyone’s face!

The vines loved the gentle spring rain and quickly produced a healthy, vibrantly green canopy.  In December, our Nelson sun made for perfect flowering and good pollination.

Summer brought many weeks of blue skies, interspersed with brief rain falls, just enough to keep the soil moisture up and the vines thriving.

We couldn’t believe our luck when we saw this weather pattern continue right into harvest in mid-March!  The fruit was in perfect condition with high sugar levels and tremendous flavour intensity, probably the best we’ve ever seen it!

As Covid-19 started to cast long shadows over the country, we managed to complete harvest 2020 just hours before the start of lockdown!
