Our Montepulciano 2008 is a scented wine with charming violet and dark berry flavours and a seductively smooth texture.
Originating from Central Italy, this grape variety is the perfect accompaniment to a wood-fired pizza or delicious New Zealand game.
The wine will benefit from bottle ageing and we recommend to enjoy it between now and 2010.
Montepulciano originates from Central Italy and produces large, almost seedless grape berries of an amazing dark colour.
relatively low acidity (especially for an Italian varietal) and mild sweet tannins ideally suited to the temperate Nelson climate.
The 2008 vintage is very fresh, vibrant and fruity, tasting like a good Beaujolais. Plummy and spicy, with a touch of oak-derived complexity, it is full-flavoured and well-rounded, offering good, early drinking.
Blackenbrook Montepulciano 2008 is vivid in colour and the viscous texture is layered with tannins. A floral wine with hints of violets, briar rose hips and an earthy brambly depth, it has creamy oak with a savoury finish.Neil Hodgson - The Nelson Mail
I have enjoyed each vintage of this wine that Ursula and Daniel have produced, but as the vines get a little older the texture of the wine gets richer. This wine has opulent blackberry fruit aromas with similar flavours and a rich but silky texture in the mouth. A little twist of mint spice in the finish keeps it fresh.
