New World Wine & Food Festival in Christchurch

Its finally here: the inaugural New World Wine & Food Festival will kick off on Saturday, 3 December in Christchurch’s Hagley Park.

Fifty leading wineries from all over the South Island will showcase their delicious wares.

Amazing Food and Entertainment by Hollie Smith, the Phoenix Foundation and the Eastern will guarantee a fantastic day out.

Bob Campbell, Jo Burzynska and Yvonne Lorkin will pass on some of their immense wine knowledge and Top Chefs Adam Newell of Zibibbo, Rex Morgan of Boulcott Street Bistro and Darren Wright of the Carlton Butchery will show you their tricks of the trade.

With this amazing line-up this will be a Festival not to be missed – what a great way to start the Summer Festive Season!

Multiple Sclerosis Charity Wine Auction in Wellington

We are proud to support the first Multiple Sclerosis Charity Wine Auction to be held at the Amora Hotel in Wellington on Saturday, 19 November.

Well-respected wine writer Joelle Thomson will be the MC for the night, leading through an impressive line-up of premium New Zealand wine. 104 wineries have supported the event by donating all the wine on offer.

All proceeds from the auction will go towards service provision for those with this debilitating neurological condition as well as into research into the cause or a potential cure.

Blackenbrook Pinot Gris 2010 recommended as “Best Buy under $30.00″

Bob Campbell MW recommends our Pinot Gris 2010 as “Best Buy under $30.00″ in the latest Gourmet Traveller Wine (Oct/Nov Issue). With a price tag of just $22.90 this Pinot Gris must be outstanding value for money!

Lovely Pinot Gris in a rich, silken and slightly spicy Alsatian style. Moderately sweet with baked apple, pear and warm brioche flavours. Mouth-filling with a lingering finish.

The Tasman General Store has reopened, thank God! It is fantastic to see the new owners Lance and Anna Draper putting so much positive energy into the Store.

Blackenbrook Riesling 2009 brings home Trophy from First XV Wine Competition

Matching what was happening on the rugby field, Italy, USA and New Zealand had each provided a ‘team’ of 15 consisting of five Gewürztraminers, Pinot Gris and Riesling. The winners were chosen after a blind tasting of all 45 wines.

It was fantastic news to see the Trophy for best Riesling awarded to our Blackenbrook Riesling 2009 and the overall Trophy for the Country with the most wines in the First XV Selection going to New Zealand, represented by Nelson Wineries.

After accepting the Trophy, Daniel commented:

To win Best Riesling against such great competition was a real honour for us.

Riesling is like the white Pinot Noir for winemakers, it’s quite a challenging variety and to win against such stiff competition is huge. With four out of the five Riesling winners coming from Nelson that’s all really good for the Nelson Region.

Blackenbrook Winery open for Tasting September / October 2011

2011 Vintage of Blackenbrook wines bottled

For the last three days we had Vinpro’s bottling truck here. Under the capable guidance of Micky and his team our entire production of the year was bottled and packaged.

Our wine tanks get connected to the front of the truck by a hose. The wine then passes the filler, capper for screw cap application, labeller and finally gets packaged into cartons of twelve before being stacked onto pallets and taken to our bonded storage. And this all happens at high speed … no time for errors!

Uffff, once again everything went to plan and the bottles and stacks of cartons look spot-on. A big thank you to the Vinpro Team and our own staff …. time for a beer!
