It was fantastic news to see the Trophy for best Riesling awarded to our Blackenbrook Riesling 2009 and the overall Trophy for the Country with the most wines in the First XV Selection going to New Zealand, represented by Nelson Wineries.

After accepting the Trophy, Daniel commented:

To win Best Riesling against such great competition was a real honour for us.

Riesling is like the white Pinot Noir for winemakers, it’s quite a challenging variety and to win against such stiff competition is huge. With four out of  the five Riesling winners coming from Nelson that’s all really good for the Nelson Region.

Our wine tanks get connected to the front of the truck by a hose.  The wine then passes the filler, capper for screw cap application, labeller and finally gets packaged into cartons of twelve before being stacked onto pallets and taken to our bonded storage.  And this all happens at high speed … no time for errors!

Uffff, once again everything went to plan and the bottles and stacks of cartons look spot-on.  A big thank you to the Vinpro Team and our own staff …. time for a beer!

Back at the desk we’ve just put together our Winter Newsletter.  Our Pinot Gris has done us proud again,  export to Japan is going well and we have decided to open our Winery for Tasting every day throughout the Rugby World Cup.

The 15 Nelson Aromatic Wines representing New Zealand in the First XV

Last month, wine reviewer Sam Kim of Auckland selected the 15 Nelson wines which will represent New Zealand in the First XV Wine Competition and we are thrilled to see our Blackenbrook Riesling 2009 and Blackenbrook Pinot Gris 2010 included in the line-up.  Go Nelson!!!

Daniel and Ursula make it no secret they admire the work of Alsace guru Olivier Humbrecht, and maybe that is why their aromatic whites have earned the most success for them.

Our new importer Southern Cross in Tokyo is an enthusiastic ambassador for Blackenbrook.  They have already successfully introduced our wines at the  ‘National Azabu’,  one of the iconic wine retailers in Tokyo.
