Blackenbrook scores NZ award for top pinot gris

Tasman winery Blackenbrook Vineyard has taken another major wine trophy by neing named the best pinot gris of the New Zealand International Wine Show 2008.
Last year the vineyard’s 2007 releast took the same competition’s trophy for the top sauvignon blanc.
Winemaker and co-owner Daniel Schwarzenbach said the 2008 vintage stood out throughout the wine-making process and so it was released as the first Blackenbrook reserve pinot gris.
Nelson winemakers have been focused on the increasingly popular pinot gris and other aromatic varietals and are being recognised for their succes in producing them. Te Mania Nelson Pinot Gris 2008 and Waimea Bolitho SV Nelson Pinot Gris 2007 both won gold medals at the awards in Auckand on Saturday.
With 2273 entries, the New Zealand International Wine Show 2008 was the biggest wine competition held in New Zealand.”
